Most people don’t struggle with motivation because they’re lazy or don’t care.
They struggle because change feels uncomfortable.
I see this all the time when someone reaches out about their health. They want to feel better. They want more energy, strength, and confidence. But there’s a quiet hesitation that creeps in:
“I’m not ready yet.”
“I need to get more motivated first.”
“I’ll start when things slow down.”
Here’s what I’ve learned after more than 20 years of coaching people:
That moment of feeling “ready” rarely shows up on its own.
Your comfort zone isn’t a bad place.
It’s familiar. Predictable. Safe.
Even when it’s not serving you, it’s known — and the brain loves what it knows.
Staying in the comfort zone doesn’t require learning anything new. It doesn’t require risk. And it doesn’t challenge your identity.
But here’s the trade-off:
Nothing changes there.
Over time, comfort can quietly turn into stagnation.
When people hear “growth zone,” they often think it means:
Pushing harder
Going all-in
Extreme workouts
Drastic lifestyle changes
That’s not what it means at all.
The growth zone is simply the space just outside your comfort zone.
It’s where you:
Try something new, even if it feels awkward
Ask for help instead of doing it alone
Take one small step before you feel fully confident
Growth doesn’t come from massive leaps.
It comes from small, intentional discomfort.
This is a phrase I use often with clients:
Getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
Not uncomfortable in a painful or overwhelming way — but uncomfortable in a learning way.
The first workout might feel awkward.
The first habit change might feel clunky.
The first conversation about your goals might feel vulnerable.
That’s normal.
Discomfort doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
It usually means you’re doing something new.
One of the biggest reasons people stay stuck is because they try to do everything on their own.
The growth zone is much easier to step into when:
You have guidance
You have structure
You’re in an environment where you feel supported, not judged
That’s why coaching matters. Not because you can’t do it yourself — but because support shortens the learning curve and builds confidence faster.
This part surprises a lot of people.
Confidence doesn’t come before action.
It comes because of action.
You don’t need to feel confident to start.
You need to start to build confidence.
Each small step reinforces the belief that:
“I can do this.”
“I’m capable.”
“I’m learning.”
That’s the real growth zone.
Leaving your comfort zone doesn’t require a dramatic overhaul of your life.
It starts with:
A conversation
A decision to get support
A willingness to take the next small step
You don’t need to be perfect.
You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You just need to be willing.
That’s where growth begins.
If you’re ready to step into your growth zone and start building a healthier, more confident version of yourself, Freedom Body Fitness is here to help.
Not with pressure.
Not with extremes.
But with coaching, structure, and support — every step of the way.
